Hooked ... again

The Decorah eagles are once again busy hatching eggs and providing entertainment for me.  I have been spending WAY too much time watching an eagle sit/set (?) on the next ... check it out:

You can just watch ... you don't have to join.

Also busy contemplating and found myself writing these things in my journal a couple day ago (which probably indicates how my days have been going):
  • Life is short.  Stop doing things you don't enjoy.  Now.
  • When you think you're done there's always one more thing to do.  Don't bother sitting down.
  • No matter how carefully you plan (i.e., control) something or someone throws you a curve.
  • Don't stay in organizations or groups or on committees where you have no input and/or the decisions have already been made before the body meets.  Someone else can take up that space and you can be somewhere else, doing something you enjoy.  (See point #1.)
In a nut shell; we mowed, things broke, problems came up, money was spent, I slept, I ate, etc.  I wish I could say "But it's all good."  Maybe next time.  But the mindlessness of watching eagles hatch, that I can manage this week.  I'm off to see mother tomorrow.  The drive will give me lots of time to unwind and think.

Busy-ness ...

Ta da!  The first rug ... this was just the beginning.  I've since completed it and have started another in a medium blue soft denim-like fabric.  I'm learning as I go for sure!
First of all, I understand that since two changes occurred -- I got a new anti-virus program and Blogger changed formats at just about the same time -- some of you are unable to leave comments.  I'm really sorry about that.  I've tried to "fix" it on my end by going through every aspect of Blogger I can access and check to be sure comments are enabled, but alas, nothing.  I'm thinking it is my virus program.  If I get the time I'll contact their tech support.  There might be a simple fix. (?) Again ... sorry!

As you can see by the picture above, I've been busy in the garage the last few days.  I got to weaving finally!  Of course I am self-taught so problems have arisen.  But I'm doing my best to work them out.  It is all a learning process.  I need to talk to Paul S. again but have understand his wife is not well.  Don't want to bother him just yet.  I do have a very good (borrowed) book on weaving and MUST buy one of my own.  Jan will miss it eventually .....

I am listening to a neat CD just now; the soundtrack from the movie American Graffiti.  I bought it to take with me to my 50th class reunion get together.  Just heard "All Summer Long" by the Beach Boys.  Wow, it is a great song!  One of their lesser known hits but my favorite.  Now on the other end of the spectrum, I also just got a wonderful CD from Nonesuch Records by the Carolina Chocolate Drops called Leaving Eden.  It's great!  I recommend it.

Been keeping busy.  Wendell got the garden tilled last week, so on Thursday I planted spinach, beets, lettuce, radishes, green onions, and sugar peas.  (Makes me tired just reading that ... whew!)  Also got out there and pulled weeds from all of the flower beds and got them "Preened".  As early as it is I can see that I will have to re-Preen in the middle of the summer.  Of course this weather is not natural.  And they say 85 degrees tomorrow.  Not good.  Today I washed the screens and we put them in.  But I am ashamed to say that at 4:00 I had to turn on the AC.  Yes, it got up to 79 degrees in the house and I said 'enough already'.  I feel real shame.  Who in the world turns on the AC in mid-March in Indiana???  (me ...)

Besides washing screens and windows, doing laundry, putting down Preen, re-potting two house plants and making laundry detergent I actually got to do some weaving!  Yeah!  Tonight Wendell is at lodge and I am at peace.  (Uh oh, the dryer just turned off.  Later .......)

I know it's spring because ...

  • I hear the peepers as I drive down our road.
  • John's wheat fields are getting beautifully green.
  • The first dandelion is showing off.
  • A fly rides all the way to Washington with me!
  • The 4-wheelers cruise to the end of our road to be sure the river is still there.
  • Crocus and daffodils are blooming in the yard
  • An abundance of weeds are popping up through the mulch in the flower beds.
  • Bluebirds are hunting near the asparagus patch.
  • Squirrels are having to search a long time to find walnuts they buried.
  • Baby calves are kicking up their heels in the fields.
  • Fat robins are calling for spring rains.
The garden shed calls my name  ...

How do you know it's spring near you?

This n' that ...

For some reason I'm having trouble getting back to some sort of routine.  Lots of 'extra' things have been thrown into the mix here.  After getting unpacked and semi back to normal Wendell and I went up to see Mom for a couple days.  BTW ... two days after we returned home she had a doctor appointment and he says she can now put full weight back on that leg.  Considering that 'they' said at the beginning that she would probably be in a wheelchair for the rest of her life, this is no less than a miracle to me.  Mom is very upbeat now, and bright and cheery.  I don't blame her!  She has always been motivated to keep up with life, this is no different.  The people at RT fully expect her to be back in her apartment soon.  We are thankful.  I was so glad to see her ...

Shopped Wednesday.  Cleaned house Thursday.  It was purely a coincidence that I got sick that night.  (LOL!)  Poor Wendell ... once again he is stuck with my obligations.  On Friday he had to call off a lunch I had planned.  Also had to bake brownies for a funeral dinner.  And deliver them.  Thank goodness he enjoys cooking from time to time.  (But it's usually on the grill.)  So for the past two days I have felt punk.  I skipped church today; don't want to spread it around.  Had a touch of the stomach flu is all ...

We've been able to catch up with friends by phone and had dinner with a couple others, so it's about back to normal.  On our way home from Mom's we stopped in Kokomo and had dinner with Jeff.  It sure was good catching up with him and hearing all about what he has been doing.  Today I got to talk to Adrian (and Veronica).  At their house it's been remodel time.  They tore out the carpet in LR and hall and installed laminate over this weekend!  (Oh, to be young and full of energy again!)  They still had to trim and put furniture back in; they were taking off for a nice lunch out when I talked to them.  Then back to work.

Speaking of 'the boys' ... I think some time ago I promised to put some pictures on here of them in some of the matching outfits I "made" them wear as youngsters.  Here's one; others will be in "pages" at right a.s.a.p.  Enjoy!
